HomeBATTLEY Photos

Home Table of Contents  Surnames Name List

These photos were in a family album that was taken to Australia so that Frederick and Walter BATTLEY would not forget their English heritage. Unfortunately there are no names attached to the photos so we are trying to work out who is who and when the photos were taken. If anyone can help we would be very grateful!

Update: We have received a few more photos that we know to be William BATTLEY and Mary CHATFIELD... so some of these photos have now been identified (probably)

williammary.jpg (40512 bytes)

This photo is probably William & Mary BATTLEY (nee CHATFIELD).

gregorydurrant.jpg (45205 bytes)

Could this be another photo of William BATTLEY (1808 - 1862)? It was taken in Wimbledon.

Russell & Sons were taking photographs around 1888.

anniedurrant.jpg (50168 bytes)

This photo was also taken in Wimbledon. Could this be Mary BATTLEY (nee READY)?

chatfield.jpg (53446 bytes)

This photo was taken in a studio at Brockford. It could be Charlotte BATTLEY and Zephaniah CHAPMAN close to their wedding in 1859

londonbattley.jpg (38033 bytes)

This photo was taken in London either at 52 Regent St or 433 Strand. Is this lady the same as the lady in the previous photo? Or could she be a daughter of the couple?

CJ Gearing & Co was a photographer between the years 1881 - 1891

mary.jpg (35651 bytes)

This photo is probably Mary CHATFIELD. She was from Ightham in Kent. Mary married William BATTLEY in 1862 at Ightham.

I could not find out about a photographer's studio of Harman, in Bromley, Kent.

tottenham.jpg (46593 bytes)

These children are probably Ernest (back), Richard (right) and William BATTLEY taken around 1880

roberthawkhurst.jpg (48368 bytes)

This is Robert BATTLEY b 1842. Robert was at Hawkhurst in Kent between about 1871 & 1881. And this photo was taken around 1877.

elizarolfe.jpg (36918 bytes)

This is Eliza Ann BATTLEY (nee ROLFE), wife of Robert. The children are Edith age 6, Horace age 3 and Constance age 2. This photo is c.1877

twoladies.jpg (51581 bytes)

Another WH Prestwich photo. This time from 155 City Road (Shoreditch). The girls are possibly sisters. One of the girls could be Ada Mary BATTLEY who was a servant in Islington in 1891 age 19. The other girl could also be Clementine FECAMP age 23 in 1891, Ada's sister-in-law through her sister Elizabeth..

lady.jpg (40989 bytes)

Who is this girl? She looks like a Battley and is probably around 16 years old. Can anyone help us date this? She also has a wedding ring on, so it might be Laura HART (wife of Robert BATTLEY and also my Great Great Grandmother).

richmondlady.jpg (41057 bytes)

This lady is probably the same as the girl in the photo above, so this could be a later picture of Ada BATTLEY. But what was she doing in Richmond? The photo was made by F N Jones, 4 The Crescent, Kew Rd, Richmond, S W.

richmondlady2.jpg (47576 bytes)

Another photo taken in Richmond, this time by Clements & Co, 1 Riverdale Terrace, Petersham Road, Richmond. Is she the same girl as before?

oxfordstreetlady.jpg (37354 bytes)

This photo is entitled 'Artistic Photography at Night by the Electric Light and was taken by the Star Photographic Co, 536 Oxford Street. This would have been taken c. 1896 and could be the same girl pictured above with the book.

battleygirls.jpg (49252 bytes)

This group of girls was photographed by Bugg of Stowmarket. It is possibly the 2 youngest BATTLEY girls with their mother, Mary and their cousin Beatrice FECAMP. It is likely that the seated girls are from l to r Ellen & Minnie and the girl kneeling is Beatrice.

ipswichbattley.jpg (59094 bytes)

These 3 girls are probably BATTLEY's and may be sisters. H Walter's (then '& Sons') photographers was at 11 St Margaret's Plain in 1925 so at a guess this would have been taken around 1900 - 1910.

minniearthur.jpg (47360 bytes)

This photo is probably Minnie BATTLEY with her husband Arthur TURNER and daughter May. Note the similarity to the girl on the right of the photo above.

twochatfields.jpg (45604 bytes)

Ellen BATTLEY is seated and one of her sisters - probably Minnie - is next to her The photo is marked with 'The Studio' on the bottom.

smiling.jpg (57102 bytes)

This photo is of Mary Ann KING (right) and her sister. Mary was the wife of Walter BATTLEY and this would have been taken in Australia.

gladys_fosker_age_16.jpg (27773 bytes)

This is Gladys FOSKER, daughter of Ellen BATTLEY and Benjamin FOSKER. Gladys was 16 so this would have been taken around 1924.
