General Notes (Husband)

Josiah James sage was born in the village of Somersham,Suffolk on the 11th April 1867.He was living at Hill Farm,Somersham at the time of the census carried out on 2nd April 1871.He was working as a Labourer and living at Waffron's Farm,Thames Ditton,Surrey at the time of the census carried out on the 3rd April 1881.

On 17th May 1888 he started work at Hampton Court Palace,employed as a propogater in the palace gardens.At the time of the census carried out on 5th April 1891 he was living at Clump Meadow,Queen's Road,Thames Ditton,and employed at Hampton Court Palace as a gardener.

On the 7th July 1897 Josiah married Elizabeth Ann Hogbin in St Nicholas Church,Strood in Kent.His first child was born, Albert Henry, on the 10th March 1897,at St Ronan's,Sumer Road,East Molesey,Surrey.
Three more children were born at Mamion,Sumer Road,East Molesey.Daughters,Elizabeth May on the 26th August 1898,Hilda Mary on 30th August 1901 and Ellen Daisy on 10th October 1903.

On the 13th May 1937 Josiah was awarded the Royal Victorian Silver Medal for service at Hampton Court Palace.At the time he was living at 2 Andrew's Cottages,Queen's Road,Thames Ditton.

Josiah died on the 22nd March 1960 at 24 Queen's Road,Thames Ditton,the home of his eldest daughter and her husband.
