Research Notes (Husband)



There were two marriages in the same week of Giles Pettitt, who were first cousins. One married Mary Knocke  31 May 1590 at Horseheath, and the other married Susan Ruse 8 June 1590 at Horseheath, Cambs.  One is the son of Richard Pettitt and the other the son of Richards brother William. I have been unable to determine which is which as both were born about the same time as were their spouses, and without checking parish registers I have no way to confirm this at present. Therefore I have entered both women as the wives of both these Giles' ....

Research Notes (Husband)



 From the Domesday Book:  Horseheath Horsei: Count Alan and Alwin from him;  Wulfeva from Richard FitzGilbert; 5 villagers from Hardwin of Scales;  Norman from Aubrey de Vere. Near the Roman Via Devana.

 Horseheath is haunted by a man who hoarded gold somewhere in Money Lane.  On moonlit nights, nocturnal strollers hear him calling:  'Pick up your spade and follow me.' To date, no one has dared.
