Hi Noeleen,
The entry from “Victoria and Riverina 1930-1932” for W. Battley also has a picture of the Battley Family and their cow “Cream Rose of Wilsonhouse”. Have attached the pictures to this e-mail. The entry states-
“The Hollywood Ayrshire stud farm, Trafalgar, is conducted by Mr. W. Battley and his three sons, Len, Roy and Eric.
The original farm was at Maffra, but the stud was later removed to the present property some six or seven years ago. It is considered to be one of the finest Ayrshire stud farms in Gippsland, having been built up by purebred bulls from the best blood in Australia.
The fine property consists of 100 acres, most suitable for raising dairy stock, and the scientific farming methods that have been adopted, together with liberal top-dressing and the sowing down with subterranean clover, have made the estate very fertile.
Mr. W. Battley was born in England in 1870, and came to Australia at the age of eighteen, having had previous farming experience before leaving home, which no doubt gave him a good grounding for the work awaiting him here.
All surplus crops are converted into silage, the silo being filled twice annually. Summer crops of Algerian oats and cow grass, with maize in the winter, is the usual crop rotation adopted.
The progeny of the stud stock are eagerly sought after, being so well known as high-test and pure-bred animals, soundly reared under ideal conditions. Numerous prizes have been won at the various shows throughout the State, and Ayrshire breeders desirous of improving their herds should not fail to visit this excellent breeding farm.
One splendid beast, “Cream Rose of Wilsonhouse”, has eleven championships to her credit, and is the mother of numerous prize winners. Messrs. W. Battley and Sons are doing a fine work in their efforts to improve the dairying stock of the country, and richly deserve the thanks of the dairying community.”
Hope it was who you were looking for, if I can do anything else please let me know.
Regards
Andy.

General Notes (Husband)
From Rachel via email Feb2005
I have also received a letter from Ron Battley who was the son of William J Battley (Emily's brother) I'll just quote from his letter to you: "W J Battley was my father. To deal with the rest in date order. Edith Battley was Dad's sister. She married into the Jones family and lived in Bedford in Garfield Street. Dad and I used to go there on holiday. She kept a small grocery shop. Next was Aunt Con. She married into the Ward Family (Walter Ward) who farmed in Wicken. Again we went there for holidays. Next Aunt Alice who married into the Reynolds family. I have no knowledge of her for many years. Next we come to two aunts, who I am most associated with Aunt Emily and Aunt Amy, you will know about anyway. That seems to be everyone although there was a brother I know nothing about. I hope this is helpful to you
