William Blyth born Gt Yarmouth 1835 son of Thomas Blyth and Harriet Dean, died while unloading a trawler on Grimsby Docks on 31st May 1881. William was stated to be a widower when he married Elizabeth Champ in 1868 she was a widow. Elizabeth was stated born Ramsgate on 1881 census age 44. They were living at Dent Back House, Great Grimsby, Lincoln in 1881 with 4 children. William and Elizabeth Blyth in 1868 living at Osbourne St, Hull. Witnesses at marriage were J Johnson and Rebecca Cook. In the Grimsby News dated Friday 3rd June 1881 was an article as follows,
On Tuesday morning a man named William Blyth aged 39 years lately residing at Fanny's Buildings Eight Foot Road, Albert Street whilst employed landing fish from the smack Star of Scarborough, was noticed to sit down and turn very pale. When asked if anything was the matter he complained of a pain in his heart. His companions were in the act of lifting him up, when he fell back and immediately expired. The body was removed to hospital to await a coroners' enquiry. The deceased leaves a wife and 7 children, the youngest of whom is a fortnight old. The inquest was held at the hospital on Wednesday on the body. It was stated that the deceased was aged 39 years. He was working on the pontoon carrying fish when he was suddenly attacked with a spasm of the heart and died almost instantly. Verdict: death from natural causes.
