From Thomas Chatfield's Autobiography written in 1904
"Of my grandfather's numerous family, three( John, the oldest, Walter, the youngest, and my father Nicholas) came to America during the period between 1830 and 1840. John and Walter located in Illinois, not far from Fort Dearborn, on the site of which Chicago now stands. Both died soon after arrival. Walter died childless. John left six sons--presumably the numerous Chatfields in the middle west are descended from those six sons."
General Notes (Wife)
That her maiden name is Sims comes from family stories
she married Thomas Harding 15 Aug 1841 Dupage county, IL
From Jesse Miner's notes Rock Island, Door County, WI. In fall of 1847 a fisherman met Mrs. Harding near the lighthouse running and crying "They've stolen my Mary" They had Mary aboard the schooner, she came back two weeks later married to Silas Wright. Since there was no law, etc on the Rock Island most people went to Chicago to marry or to Green Bay, WI
